Sarah Muir-Smith

South — Room 302

Hello! My name is Sarah Muir-Smith, I’m an artist, facilitator and designer interested in regenerative practice working on Wurundjeri Country in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.

I designs objects and opportunities for multispecies commoning, using material practice and craft as a tool for reciprocal engagement with the living world. Education and community engagement are central to my practice. My current work includes sculptural objects, workshops and handwoven habitat augmentation structures to support local wildlife.

I completed the DCMC’s Habitat Conservation and Management course in Naarm (2024) and recently completed my Masters of Regenerative Design at Central Saint Martins, London with Distinction (2026).

I am interested in a wide range of materials and practices, spanning ceramics, fibrecraft, weaving, basketry and illustration. Collaboration is a huge part of my practice, so if you are interested in similar themes, please get in touch- I love to meet people with aligned values and interests!

Craig (Draw Plants Together) with whom I share a desk is one such lovely collaborator, and we have partnered up for workshop series such as Create by the Creek.

I am a member of the  newly organised nature-hearted collective of artists and facilitators seeking to use their creative practice to engage people with the living world. I’m also a member of the Alternative Ceramics Supply team, whose community event and exhibition Bulk Buy (2023) was part of Melbourne Design Week and featured in Keramiekmuseum Princessehof in Leeuwarden, Netherlands.

I have facilitated and spoken on panel discussions and have contributed written work to the Journal of Australian Ceramics. I’m passionate about making concepts around regenerative design accessible, engaging and fun for the broader public.
