Join us for a subtle, sunset ceremony
to mark the longest night of the year, and
welcome the return of longer, brighter days.

As we honour the dark as birthplace

through presence, silence and spaciousness;

we allow ourselves to begin again,

and bask in the gentle warmth

of this gorgeous, timeless practice.

What is Tea Ceremony?

This traditional, subtle, natural-medicine ceremony is held together by the 4 pillars of Purity, Tranquility, Harmony and Respect. It is a way to clear the dross of every day life, shed the pulse of productivity and allow the eternal self to emerge.

Nico Gerber has been studying the Art of Tea since February 2021.
In tea culture, it is said we are students for life.
Nico holds great reverence for the practice of tea, and hopes to honour her teachers and the purity of the leaf through maintaining the forms and ways of tea that she has been so fortunate to receive. As tea has touched her own life so deeply, it is her intention and prayer to share tea with others, so that they too may be supported by the wisdom and simple beauty of this wonderful and ancient practice.

Tea is a still and silent practice that involves sharing bowls of tea in a small group, usually for one hour, and ideally at the beginning or end of the day. All elements present – incense, flowers, ceramics, water, tea and more – are sourced intentionally so as to amplify the harmony and purity of the space.

FAQs

What does a tea ceremony entail? Do I have to do anything?

In tea – there is nothing to do, and no one to be.

We sit together on the floor, for about hour, and drink tea. Stillness + silence are encouraged. If movement is necessary, it is advised to do so with as much subtlety and attunement to the shared space as possible. Please refrain from any unnecessary sounds, so as not to disturb the other guests. You may use the bathroom at anytime.

Tea in Ceremony is a solo venture, shared. Where much of modern-life is about what we see as active and direct human-to-human contact, the space of tea asks us to redefine those terms, and bask in a gentler, but somehow – deeper – form of contact.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes – we are fully wheelchair accessible.

Do I need to sit on the floor?

We are happy to provide chairs for those who need them. Please message us in advance if this applies to you.

Is the tea caffeinated?

Yes – we serve high-quality varieties of Camellia Sinesis only.

If you are sensitive to caffeine, it may help to know that the first 3 bowls of the ceremony contain the most caffeine – after this, the amounts are very small.

Guests are invited to drink as much or as little tea as they like, placing their bowl at their feet should they wish to sit out a round of service.

What if I am late?

While aiming for an early arrival is optimal, we understand that this isn’t always how life pans out. If you find yourself running late, simply enter quietly and respectfully, so as not to disturb others who are already dropping into the space.
