Who are you—online, offline, or somewhere in between?
Between Selves is an interactive mini arts festival that explores identity as something fluid, shifting, and constantly performed. Through a combination of artworks and participatory experiences, the festival invites you to not only look at identity, but to step into it.
Across two connected rooms at Balam Balam, you are not just a visitor—you are part of the work.
What you’ll experience
In Room G01, encounter interactive art installations, paintings, and moving-image works that reflect how identity is shaped by platforms, algorithms, and online culture. Alongside these works, you can create your own persona through mask-making, then step into a guided movement and dance experience—wearing your mask, moving through the space, and interacting with others. This transforms identity from something you show into something you perform.
In Room 401, identity becomes more personal and embodied. This space features photographs and videos alongside a curated display of audience-submitted works. You are invited to take part in henna body drawing, create your own identity name card, and dress up for a polaroid portrait—capturing a version of yourself in the moment.
A highly participatory experience
This is not a traditional exhibition—you are invited to take part.
- Create your own hand-painted mask
- Join a movement and dance experience in the space
- Take part in the name card drawing workshop
- Try henna drawing
- Take home an instant Fuji Camera portrait
- Collect stamps in your festival booklet
You don’t just view the artworks—you interact with them, respond to them, and become part of the experience.
